Skrtel Wishes Tosun Well After Everton Move

Former Liverpool centre back Martin Skrtel has sent his congratulations following the recent move of striker Cenk Tosun from Besiktas to Everton. The former Premier League star with almost a decade experience for the Reds, wished the Turkey international well as he moved from the Turkish Super Lig to the Premier League.

Skrtel opines that Tosun would be playing in “the best league in the world.” He feels Tosun proved his worth and ability in Turkey so he can excel as well in England. On the Merseyside derbies, Skrtel – who apparently still passionate about Liverpool – said Tosun would face the wrath of Anfield during the derbies. He promised to follow the forward’s performances in the Premier League.

After weeks of talks, Everton completed the deal for Tosun from the Turkish champs. Tosun was likely not the top player on the Toffees wish list but after several disappointments, they had to reach a compromise. Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud refused to move to the Merseyside to help them with their goalscoring issues. Theo Walcott was yet to decide and Wayne Rooney could not handle all the work.  Tosun, 26, decided to make the leap onto the unknown with the move to the Premier League. It would be highly demanding, with instant impact the only option. Tosun’s deal is a record for a player transferring from the Turkish Super Lig.

With Tosun’s move, Besiktas are reportedly seeking to land Giroud. Sam Allardyce had revealed that Giroud’s wife was against the move to Everton, preferring them sort out their issues at the Emirates. How Besiktas would convince Giroud to move to Turkey is an entirely different issue. For now, Skrtel assures that Tosun will have “a wonderful experience.”
